E-scooters in Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot: Bolt, Dott and Lime, prices, Poland’s rules and the places you can’t ride
You can rent an e-scooter in Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot, the Tricity (Trójmiasto), with Bolt, Dott or Lime; Bolt and Dott rent only to riders of 18 and over. Bolt charges from PLN 0.22 a minute plus an unlock fee (its rate for Poland on 25 October 2026); Dott and Lime show their prices in the app. Polish law sends you to the cycle path at up to 20 km/h and allows the pavement only beside a fast road, at walking pace, and you may not ride on Sopot’s Monte Cassino street or its pier.
Which e-scooter apps work in Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot?
Three companies’ scooters are on our map of the Tricity:
- Bolt, in the same app as its taxis. Its Polish terms require you to be 18, and new riders are capped at 15 km/h for their first five rides.
- Dott, whose terms for Poland also require 18.
- Lime, which Gdańsk (April 2023) and Gdynia (July 2022) named among the companies renting scooters there.
No city publishes a current list of operators; any other company’s scooters are only in its own app.
At about 15:30 on Sunday 25 October 2026 the Tricity map showed about 4,800 Bolt and Dott scooters: a snapshot, not a fleet size. Matched to the official commune boundaries, about 3,550 stood in Gdańsk (2,070 Bolt, 1,480 Dott), 365 in Gdynia (all but 2 of them Dott) and 330 in Sopot (all but 4 of them Bolt). The other 540 or so, all Dott, stood in Rumia, Reda and Wejherowo to the north-west, and in Kolbudy and the rural commune of Pruszcz Gdański to the south. The town of Pruszcz Gdański has its own map: about 200 Dott scooters that afternoon.
Lime joined the map that evening. A full scan of Lime’s Tricity zone, finished at 16:40 that day, found about 1,470 Lime scooters: a separate count, not part of the snapshot above.
Bolt lists scooters in Gdynia, and Sopot named Dott among its operators in 2025, yet the map showed only 2 Bolt in Gdynia and 4 Dott in Sopot. It shows where each scooter stands, with Bolt’s and Lime’s battery charge where they share it, but no prices, zones, parking or hours, and not MEVO, the metropolitan bike-share.

How much does an e-scooter cost in the Tricity?
Bolt’s Polish page advertises scooters “from PLN 0.22 a minute” and says unlock fees and rates vary by place. It also sells unlimited unlocks from €0.99 a month, and weekly and monthly passes. Dott and Lime show their prices in the app.
Bolt may ask for a reaction-time test in the app before you unlock: at weekends, says its Polish page, or at peak hours, says its English one. The terms set the extra charges:
| Operator | Charge | When |
|---|---|---|
| Bolt | PLN 30 | Parking against its rules or without a clear end-of-ride photo |
| Bolt | Up to PLN 460 | Leaving the scooter outside an allowed parking place |
| Bolt | Up to PLN 560, plus ride charges until it’s found | Abandoning the scooter without telling Bolt |
| Bolt | Up to PLN 140 | Admin fee for handling a breach |
| Dott | Up to €300 | Recovering a scooter parked or locked against its instructions |
| Dott | €50 | Any breach of its terms, and again as an admin fee on a fine it pays for you |
Where can you ride? Poland’s e-scooter rules
Poland’s Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym) sets the same rules in all three cities. An electric scooter (hulajnoga elektryczna) may go no faster than 20 km/h.
- Cycle path or cycle lane first, where there is one for your direction.
- Otherwise the road, but only where its speed limit is 30 km/h or less.
- The pavement only as an exception: beside a road with a limit above 30 km/h and no cycle path or lane. Ride at walking pace there, give way to pedestrians and don’t get in their way.
| Rule | What applies | Fine |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum age | 13 since 3 March 2026 (10 before); under 13 only in a home zone, with an adult | – |
| Aged 13 to 17 | A bicycle card (karta rowerowa) or an AM, A1, B1, B or T licence | – |
| Helmet | Required under 16 since 3 June 2026 | Up to PLN 100, for the parent or carer |
| Cycle path | Use it where there is one | PLN 100 |
| Pavement | Only beside a road over 30 km/h with no cycle path or lane | PLN 200 |
| On the pavement | Walking pace, give way, don’t obstruct | PLN 300 each |
| Riding | One rider; no passenger, animal, load or towing; not side by side on the road; a hand on the handlebar | PLN 50 for side by side or no hands |
| Phone | Don’t hold it while riding | PLN 500 |
| Alcohol, 0.2‰ to 0.5‰ | “After drinking” (stan po użyciu alkoholu) | PLN 1,000 ticket; in court up to PLN 5,000 or arrest, and possibly a riding ban |
| Alcohol, over 0.5‰ | “Drunk” (stan nietrzeźwości) | PLN 2,500 ticket; in court up to PLN 5,000 or arrest, and possibly a riding ban |
| Parking on the pavement | In a marked place, else at the outer edge, parallel to it, leaving 1.5 m for pedestrians | Removal at the owner’s cost if it blocks the way |
All are national rules. The tickets come from the government’s fines tariff in force since 1 January 2022, and the helmet fine from the Code of Petty Offences.
E-scooters in Gdańsk: the Main Town, parking bays and towing
The summer ban in the Main Town (Główne Miasto). From 26 June to 30 August 2026, as the year before, the city had the operators block riding and parking inside Długie Pobrzeże, Długi Targ and Długa, Targ Węglowy, Targ Drzewny and Podwale Staromiejskie. During St Dominic’s Fair (24 July to 16 August) the zone also took in Ołowianka island and three Old Town streets. Scooters lost power there and rides couldn’t end, so the clock kept running. Check the app next summer.
A slow zone. In April 2023 the city said its agreements with the operators had capped scooters at 12 km/h in the Main Town, Ołowianka and the north of Granary Island (Wyspa Spichrzów) since 2021. The app shows whether that still applies.
Parking bays. From 1 May 2023, under updated agreements, marked bays became the only places to end a ride in the Main Town, along al. Grunwaldzka through Wrzeszcz and Oliwa, and along the seaside; the city then had 350 bay locations. The app shows where you may park now; elsewhere, follow the national pavement rule.
Towing. Since 1 January 2026, under a city council resolution, a badly parked scooter can be towed for PLN 179, plus PLN 35 for each day in the pound, charged to the owner: for a rental, the operator, whose terms let it pass the cost on.
Checks. Gdańsk’s municipal police (Straż Miejska) wrote 1,450 tickets to cyclists and e-scooter riders from January to mid-August 2026, and the city’s “Give way to pedestrians” campaign (24 September to 30 November 2026) adds joint checks with the police.
Sopot: Monte Cassino street and the pier
ul. Bohaterów Monte Cassino, the pedestrian street known as Monciak, and Skwer Kuracyjny, the square at the head of the pier, are closed to all traffic, scooters included, the city says. In September 2025 Tier and Dott agreed, at the request of Sopot’s municipal police, to switch their scooters off there through the app and warn riders who approach; the city said it would ask other operators to follow.
The pier (molo). The 2026 rules of MOSiR, the city sports and leisure centre that runs it, ban riding motorbikes, bicycles, scooters, skateboards, rollerblades and quad bikes anywhere on the pier, Skwer Kuracyjny included. Entry cost PLN 10 (PLN 5 reduced) from 10 April to 30 September 2026.
Elsewhere in Sopot, park at a marked spot or follow the national pavement rule; the city has been able to tow badly parked scooters since 29 July 2021.
Gdynia: agreements and parking places
Gdynia has had agreements with the scooter operators since 2020 and, by July 2022, had marked about 3,500 parking places for them, its roads authority said then, naming Lime, Tier, Dott, Bolt and Quick as operators. The municipal police tow scooters that are badly parked and put people at risk. We found no newer city page on the scheme (October 2026).
At about 15:30 that Sunday about 40 of the 365 Bolt and Dott scooters the map showed in Gdynia stood within 300 metres of Gdynia Główna station.
Trams, buses, trains and the airport
Gdańsk’s trams and buses (ZTM Gdańsk). The city council’s carriage rules ban scooters that are neither folded nor carried as hand luggage, e-bikes, and any bike or scooter from a rental fleet; breaking ZTM’s luggage rules costs an extra PLN 96. End your ride and park before you board.
Gdynia’s buses and trolleybuses (ZKM Gdynia). The city council’s rules let you take your own e-scooter as luggage if it doesn’t block the aisle or the ticket validators, put anyone at risk, delay the service or block the driver’s view.
Trains. POLREGIO, which runs the trains on the PKM line, carries a folded scooter free as hand luggage; an unfolded one needs a luggage ticket and a space marked for bulky items (its rules from 1 September 2026). SKM Trójmiasto’s website didn’t respond when we checked, so we couldn’t confirm its rules.
The airport. At about 15:30 on 25 October the nearest Bolt or Dott scooter on the map stood more than 5 km from the terminal of Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport. We found no e-scooter rule published by the airport, the Museum of the Second World War (which runs Westerplatte), the University of Gdańsk or Gdańsk Tech.
