E-scooters in Tampere: Voi, Dott and Ryde, the night rules, where to park and when the season ends
E-scooters in Tampere are rented from Voi, Dott and Ryde, the three companies the City lists; each app shows its price, and our map shows Voi and Dott, not Ryde. From 15 you ride on the cycle path or the road, never the pavement. There is no night ban, but on Wednesday to Saturday nights rental scooters slow to 15 km/h from 23:00 to 05:00, and in the centre you park in a marked bay. The season runs, as a rule, to 14 November.
E-scooters in Tampere: Voi, Dott and Ryde
Since 1 October 2025 renting out e-scooters in Tampere has required the City’s micromobility licence (mikroliikennelupa). The first licences run to the end of the 2026 season, and for now the City charges no fee. Its e-scooter page lists three companies:
| Company | On the City’s list | Rider’s terms | On the ScootRadar map |
|---|---|---|---|
| Voi | Yes | In the app | Yes, with battery |
| Dott | Yes, as Dott (Tier) | TIER Mobility Finland Oy; 18 and over | Yes, position only |
| Ryde | Yes | In the app | No: check the Ryde app |
Ryde isn’t on our map, so look for its scooters in its own app, and don’t read the map’s total as every scooter in town. At 02:50 Tampere time on Thursday 29 October 2026 the Tampere map showed about 2,240 Voi and 1,080 Dott scooters as they stood at that moment: a snapshot, not a fleet size. Scooters on a ride aren’t shown, nor prices, zones or parking. The map’s area isn’t cut to the city limits and may take in edges of Pirkkala, Kangasala or Ylöjärvi; the town of Nokia, to the west, is counted on its own.
The licence sets no cap for the whole city, but the centre may hold at most 1,500 rental scooters in all, split equally between the companies.
Electric scooter rental in Tampere: what it costs
The app shows the price before you unlock: we found no Tampere price on an open official or company page (29 October 2026).
Dott’s terms for Finland (last updated 23 September 2025) set its extra charges: up to €300 for recovering a scooter you parked or locked against its instructions, €50 for any breach of its terms, and a €50 admin fee if Dott pays a fine for you; fines and impounding costs are yours. Check Voi’s and Ryde’s fees and age limits in their apps. New to hire scooters? See how to rent an e-scooter.
When can you ride? The season, the night limit and the reaction test
The season. The City’s licence sets a basic season from 15 April to 14 November; outside it the companies need the City’s written consent. In 2026 the City let them start early, on 16 March, because of the mild weather. In such extra time the City can order them off the streets on 72 hours’ notice if the weather turns for good. On 29 October we found no word of the 2026 season running past 14 November.
No night ban. Tampere doesn’t switch the scooters off at night. In May 2026 the City was weighing a weekend night ban after accidents, Yle reported; in June it chose more slow zones and an earlier weekend reaction test instead, to keep night riding possible, and will review them before next season.
| Rule | What applies | Set by |
|---|---|---|
| Top speed | 20 km/h | City licence |
| Hämeenkatu, and Insinöörinkatu in Hervanta | 15 km/h every day | City; on Insinöörinkatu since 24 June 2026 |
| Slow zones | 10 km/h at all times on the busiest pedestrian streets, squares and parks of the centre | City, extended on 24 June 2026 |
| Night limit | 15 km/h from 23:00 to 05:00 on Wednesday to Saturday nights, and on the Vappu and Midsummer nights | City licence |
| Reaction test | At least 23:00–05:00 on the same nights; since 24 June 2026 from 20:00 at weekends, Friday to Sunday | City licence; City, 24 June 2026 |
Fail the reaction test and the scooter won’t unlock. The City’s pages still give the test as Thursday to Saturday, but its community committee added Wednesday nights to the night limit and the test when it adopted the licence on 2 September 2025. The City didn’t say when the weekend test from 20:00 ends.
Where to park an e-scooter in Tampere
In the city centre, only in a marked bay or rack. Since 12 June 2024 a rental scooter in central Tampere must end its ride in a bay painted with the e-scooter symbol or at a rack marked with e-scooter stickers. The area runs from Hämeenpuisto to Rautatienkatu and from Satakunnankatu to Ratina, round Keskustori, the central square.
Elsewhere, park as you would a bicycle: at the edge of the pavement or cycle path, where the scooter endangers no one and doesn’t get in the way. Outside the centre parking stays unrestricted “for the time being”, the City says.
The photo. The licence makes every app ask for a photo of the parked scooter, and the companies must check the photos and penalise clearly bad parking.
Removal. Moving badly parked scooters is first the companies’ job, but the City can move one that is dangerous or in the way, nearby or to its depot. It charges €50 for a scooter moved for street maintenance or cleaning (January 2026), billed to the scooter’s owner, the company; Dott’s terms pass official charges on to you.
In central Tampere, between Hämeenpuisto and Rautatienkatu, end your ride in a marked bay or rack. The app steers you to them; a scooter parked more than 20 metres from one can count as outside them and be moved for a fee, the licence says.
Finland’s e-scooter rules in Tampere
A rental e-scooter, built for at most 25 km/h, counts as a light electric vehicle (kevyt sähköajoneuvo) under the Road Traffic Act (Tieliikennelaki 729/2018), and its rider follows the rules for cyclists. Act 304/2025, in force since 17 June 2025, added a minimum age and a drink limit. In Finnish an e-scooter is a sähköpotkulauta, the word on Tampere’s own pages; the same national rules apply as in Helsinki.
| Rule | What applies | Who sets it |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum age | 15; handing a scooter to someone younger can cost €60 | Road Traffic Act §§ 17 and 164 a |
| Company’s age | Dott 18; Voi and Ryde in their apps | Each company’s terms |
| Where to ride | Cycle path or lane, else the road; not the pavement | Road Traffic Act §§ 18 and 52; City of Tampere |
| Alcohol and drugs | 0.5‰ in the blood or 0.22 mg/l in the breath is too much; no narcotics; €200 fee | Road Traffic Act §§ 17 a and 164 |
| Passengers | One rider only | Road Traffic Act § 147 |
| Helmet | You should generally wear one; there’s no fee | Road Traffic Act § 92 |
| Lights | White at the front, red at the back in the dark | The law, as the Road Safety Council (Liikenneturva) explains it |
The Sisä-Suomi police stepped up checks in summer 2026 on drink-riding, passengers and pavement riding. Endangering others while drunk counts as suspected drunk driving of a non-motorised vehicle, which carries day fines, they said in the City’s release of 24 June 2026.
Can you take an e-scooter on the tram, bus or train?
Nysse, Tampere’s public transport, runs the buses and the tram. Its rules for your own scooter (29 October 2026):
- Free: a folded scooter or a small e-scooter, carried on by hand, if it takes no room from other passengers.
- With a ticket: a large e-scooter, if there is room, on a ticket for your own age group.
- Never: riding a scooter inside a bus or tram, or bringing an electric moped on board.
On VR’s trains from Tampere station, small or foldable scooters travel free as hand luggage; a large one that won’t fold needs a paid, booked bike space, and you mustn’t charge it on board. With a hire scooter, end the ride near the stop before you board.
Särkänniemi, Nokia Arena, Hervanta and the campuses
Landowners such as campuses may restrict the scooters on their land, and the companies must respect that, the licence says. What the owners say (29 October 2026):
| Place | Who says so | What it says |
|---|---|---|
| Nokia Arena | The arena | No bike parking on the Deck or Sorinsilta; racks about 250 metres away, by Vuolteenkatu, Tuomiokirkonkatu, Sorinkatu and Ratapihankatu, where “kick and electric scooters can also be parked” |
| Särkänniemi | The amusement park | Bike parking and city bikes by the ticket booths at the main entrance; tram line 3 stops at the park; no e-scooter rule found |
| Tampere University and TAMK | Tampere University | No e-scooter rule on its campus parking page (22 September 2026) |
| Pyynikki and the parks | The City | No rule naming Pyynikki found; the licence lets the City bar riding on nature-reserve paths, sports fields and skate parks |
At about 03:30 on 29 October the map showed about 240 scooters (220 Voi, 20 Dott) in an area of about 1.3 by 1.7 km round Hervanta’s centre and the university campus, and about 700 (410 Voi, 290 Dott) in the centre between Hämeenpuisto and the railway station.
City bikes in Tampere
Tampere has 700 city bikes at about 170 stations, rented through the Tampere Bike Sharing app, the City says (June 2026). Our map shows standing e-scooters only, not bikes. To see what stands near you now, open the Tampere map.
Did you know?
- Fewer accidents, more rides. The emergency departments of Acuta in Tampere and of Valkeakoski treated about 400 e-scooter injuries in 2022 and about 250 a year in 2024 and 2025, while trips grew by up to 700,000 between 2022 and 2025, the City reported on 24 June 2026.
- Safer nights. About half of those injuries happened at night in 2021; in 2024 and 2025 about one in six happened between midnight and 06:00.
- Weekend nights are open. Of Finland’s seven largest cities, five, Helsinki among them, ban rental scooter rides on weekend nights; only Jyväskylä and Tampere allow them, Yle reported on 28 May 2026.
