E-scooters in Linköping: Voi, Qick and Ryde, and where to ride and park

E-scooters in Linköping are rented from Voi, Qick and Ryde, all three linked on the kommun’s (the municipality’s) e-scooter page, which says the companies renting in town have signed its letter of intent. Our map shows Voi and Qick, not Ryde, and each app shows the price before you unlock. Ride on cycle lanes or the road, never on the pavement, and expect hire scooters to slow to 6 km/h on named streets and squares in the centre. End your ride in a cycle rack or a marked bay, never on a footway or cycle lane.

E-scooters in Linköping: Voi, Qick and Ryde

Electric scooter rental in Linköping works through a letter of intent (avsiktsförklaring), a form of agreement that Linköpings kommun drew up and that the companies renting scooters in town have signed, the kommun says. It sets where scooters may not be left and where they must go slower. The kommun’s page doesn’t say which companies signed, and mentions no permit, cap or fee; we found none. It links three companies for reports of badly parked scooters (17 June 2026):

Ryde isn’t on our map, so look for its scooters in its own app, and don’t read the map’s total as all the scooters in town. At 01:50 on Thursday 29 October 2026 the map of Linköping showed about 2,410 Voi scooters as they stood at that moment and about 1,540 Qick scooters as last counted: a snapshot, not the fleet size. Scooters on a ride aren’t shown, nor prices, zones or parking. The map’s area isn’t cut to Linköping’s boundaries: its count is what the two companies’ data place in and around the town.

Bolt, which rents scooters in Stockholm and Malmö, isn’t among the companies the kommun links.

How much does a Voi or Qick scooter cost in Linköping?

The app shows the price before you unlock. We found no Linköping price on an open official page, and neither Qick’s nor Ryde’s website lists one.

Qick rents only to riders aged 18 or over, its website and terms say (October 2026). Check each app for its own age limit and fees.

E-scooter rules in Sweden: what applies in Linköping

An e-scooter, or elsparkcykel as Linköping’s own pages call it, counts as a bicycle if it goes no faster than 20 km/h and its motor is rated at no more than 250 W, says the Swedish Transport Agency (Transportstyrelsen, 14 August 2026), so cyclists’ rules apply. The law sets no minimum age; under-15s must wear a helmet, and the agency recommends one for everyone.

The police issue these fines on the spot (ordningsbot), at the amounts for cyclists set by the Prosecutor-General (1 November 2025). The kommun says enforcing the traffic rules is the police’s job. The same national rules apply in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö: see our Stockholm guide.

Slow streets and no-parking areas in central Linköping

Under the agreement, the companies must limit their scooters to 6 km/h on these streets and squares in the city centre:

  • Streets: Hantverkaregatan, Borgmästaregatan, Bokhållaregatan, Hospitalsgränd, Stora Badstugatan, Torggatan and Tanneforsgatan, and the central parts of Nygatan, Ågatan, Platensgatan, Klostergatan and Repslagaregatan.
  • Squares: Stora torget, Hospitalstorget, Lilla torget and Farbror Melins torg.

The companies must also make sure you can’t end a ride in the Trädgårdsföreningen park or in Järnvägsparken, on either side of Järnvägsavenyn, on Hospitalstorget, on the square in front of the main entrance of Konsert & Kongress, the concert and congress hall, in S:t Larsparken or Domkyrkoparken, the cathedral park, or on Lilla torget and Farbror Melins torg. The kommun says these zones and streets are usually marked in the companies’ apps.

Where to park an e-scooter in Linköping

Since 1 September 2022 Swedish law has banned leaving an e-scooter on a footway or cycle lane except in a marked parking place or a cycle rack, though a town may allow exceptions. Gothenburg still lets scooters stand on the pavement outside its old centre where they block no one (see our Gothenburg guide); the kommun’s page makes no such exception. It says e-scooters must be parked in a cycle rack or other parking place, and never on a footway or cycle lane, in people’s way or where they put others in danger.

In the city centre there are marked parking bays for e-scooters on Apotekaregatan by Domkyrkoparken, on Ågatan opposite Pusslunden and at Sankt Larsparken, and there are e-scooter stands at Resecentrum, the Travel Centre at the station (17 June 2026). Domkyrkoparken and S:t Larsparken are on the no-parking list too, so stop exactly where the app allows it.

The companies must move scooters left in the way or dangerously, and encourage riders to use racks and bays. If you park a Qick scooter wrongly and the kommun removes it, Qick’s terms (October 2026) let it charge you up to SEK 1,500; to avoid that, the photo the app asks for at the end of a ride must show the scooter in a cycle rack or other cycle parking.

To report a badly parked scooter, use the kommun’s “Synpunkt, felanmälan eller fråga” form under the category Parkering, with the company’s name or colour and the exact place, or contact the company directly.

In Linköping a hire scooter belongs in a cycle rack, a marked bay or another parking place, never on the pavement or a cycle lane. The app shows where ending a ride is allowed.

The station, Campus Valla and Gamla Linköping

From Linköping Central and its Travel Centre (Resecentrum), Stora torget is ten minutes’ walk and the cathedral fifteen, Visit Linköping says.

We found no night ban, winter pause or season set by the kommun (October 2026).

PlaceWho says soWhat it says
Linköping CentralJernhusen, the station’s ownerNo e-scooter rule on its station or parking pages; the kommun has e-scooter stands at Resecentrum, and no-parking areas in Järnvägsparken and on both sides of Järnvägsavenyn
Campus VallaAkademiska Hus, which develops the campus for Linköping UniversityNo e-scooter rule found; follow the campus signs
Gamla LinköpingThe open-air museum, about 2 km west of the centreNo cycling inside its old town quarters: wheel your bike or leave it in a cycle rack; it names no rule for e-scooters as such

Can you take an e-scooter on the bus or the Östgötapendeln?

Östgötatrafiken, the region’s public transport, runs Linköping’s buses and the Östgötapendeln commuter trains. It lets you take your own e-scooter on board as hand luggage if it is folded as small as it goes and there is room (terms last updated 14 April 2026):

  • City buses: folded e-scooters only, as hand luggage; bicycles aren’t allowed.
  • Östgötapendeln and rural buses: folded e-scooters as hand luggage; bicycles and e-bikes travel free if there is room, at most six bikes on a train, and a simple folding e-scooter with a folding handlebar counts as an e-bike there.

Its terms say nothing about hire scooters: end your ride in a rack or bay near the stop before you board.

Bikes, Norrköping and the map

We found no public bike-share scheme: in summer you can rent a bike in the centre and at the locks in Berg (Bergs slussar), and the rest of the year from some bike shops, Visit Linköping says. The map shows e-scooters only.

Nearby, the map of Norrköping showed about 490 Voi scooters at that moment and about 490 Qick scooters as last counted at 01:50 on 29 October 2026; Ryde lists Norrköping among its towns too. To see what is standing near you now, open the Linköping map.

Did you know?

  • Short distances. From Stora torget, almost the whole urban area lies within four kilometres, Visit Linköping says.
  • Buses without fossil fuel. Linköping’s city buses run on electricity or biogas, Visit Linköping says.
  • Sweden’s longest corso. That is Corson, the one-kilometre walking and cycling street through Campus Valla, a Linköping University deputy vice-chancellor said in March 2025, when Akademiska Hus announced its renewal for close to SEK 85 million, planned from spring 2025 to winter 2027.

Questions

Which e-scooter companies operate in Linköping?
The kommun’s page (June 2026) links Voi, Qick and Ryde, and says the companies renting scooters in town have signed its letter of intent, though not which ones; we found no permit or cap. The ScootRadar map shows Voi and Qick; Ryde’s scooters are only in its app.
Can I park an e-scooter on the pavement in Linköping?
No. The kommun says e-scooters must be parked in a cycle rack or other parking place, never on a footway or cycle lane, and never in people’s way. In the centre there are marked parking bays, and stands at Resecentrum by the station.
How fast can I ride an e-scooter in central Linköping?
An e-scooter that counts as a bicycle goes no faster than 20 km/h, and the companies must slow theirs to 6 km/h on named streets and squares in the centre, such as Stora torget and Torggatan. On a pedestrian street the law requires walking pace and giving way to people on foot; riding faster can cost SEK 1,000.
Do I need a helmet to ride an e-scooter in Linköping?
Only if you are under 15: Swedish law requires a helmet for younger riders, and the Swedish Transport Agency recommends one for everyone. Qick rents only to riders aged 18 or over.
Can I take an e-scooter on a bus in Linköping?
Only your own, folded as small as it goes and carried as hand luggage if there is room, Östgötatrafiken says. A hire scooter stays on the street, so end your ride before you board.
Are e-scooters banned at night in Linköping?
No. We found no night ban or winter pause for hire scooters set by the kommun (October 2026).
