E-scooters in Jyväskylä: Voi and Ryde, the night rules, where to park and how long the season lasts

E-scooters in Jyväskylä are rented from Voi and Ryde, and every company needs the City’s micromobility licence; each app shows its price, and our map shows Voi, not Ryde. From 15 you ride on the cycle path or the road, never the pavement. There is no night ban, but the City requires the companies to slow their scooters to 15 km/h every night from 22:00 to 06:00, with a reaction test on weekend nights. The licence lets them run only while the ground is free of snow: at least to 15 October, then while the weather allows.

E-scooters in Jyväskylä: Voi and Ryde

Since 8 September 2025 renting out e-scooters in Jyväskylä has required the City’s micromobility licence (mikroliikennelupa). The City charges €150 to handle an application, the terms set no cap on the number of scooters, and licences granted in 2026 run to 30 April 2027. The City publishes no list of licence holders, but its rider checklist (updated 4 May 2026) gives feedback contacts for two companies, Voi and Ryde, the same two Yle named on 27 May 2026.

Ryde isn’t on our map, so look for its scooters in its own app, and don’t read the map’s total as every scooter in town. At 09:51 Jyväskylä time on Thursday 29 October 2026 the Jyväskylä map showed about 1,340 Voi scooters as they stood at that moment: a snapshot, not a fleet size. Scooters on a ride aren’t shown, nor prices, zones or parking. The total takes in all of Voi’s scooters in the Jyväskylä area and isn’t cut to the city limits.

Electric scooter rental in Jyväskylä: what it costs

The app shows the price before you unlock: we found no Jyväskylä price on an open official or company page (29 October 2026). New to hire scooters? See how to rent an e-scooter.

Bad parking can cost more. The City can move a scooter parked against the licence terms, and it bills the company €50 for a short move or €70 to take it to storage; whether the company charges you is up to its terms.

When can you ride? The night limit, the reaction test and the season

The City requires the companies to slow their scooters to 15 km/h every night from 22:00 to 06:00. On Friday and Saturday nights, and on the nights of Vappu Eve (30 April) and Midsummer Eve, their apps must also make you pass a reaction test between 22:00 and 06:00; fail it and the scooter won’t unlock. There’s no night ban.

Jyväskylä lets you ride on weekend nights: of Finland’s seven largest cities, only Jyväskylä and Tampere do, Yle reported on 28 May 2026. When the City’s committee adopted the licence on 12 August 2025, it voted 7–4 against extending the reaction test to Wednesday and Thursday nights.

The season. The licence lets the companies run only while the ground is free of snow and ice. In spring the City tells them when they may start, by 20 April at the latest, once the roads are bare. In 2026 the season began on Thursday 19 March, Keskisuomalainen reported. In autumn they may run at least to 15 October and then while the weather allows, but from 16 October they must be ready to clear their scooters within 48 hours if the City asks, for forecast snow or night frost. We found no end announced by 29 October 2026.

Events. For big events such as Vappu Eve, the school-end day, Suomipop and Rally Finland (MM-ralli), the licence lets the City set temporary slow zones, no-ride areas and parking. During Rally Finland 2026 it had the companies bar riding in the areas closed round Harju, Yle reported.

Slow zones and no-ride areas: the centre, Lutakko and the parks

The licence requires the companies to slow their scooters in busy places on foot (terms in force since 1 May 2026):

  • 10 km/h: the pedestrian streets of the centre, the pedestrian stretch in front of the Mäki-Matti family park, Vapaudenkatu at the Linkki bus centre (Linkkikeskus), the bridges over the railway between the centre and Lutakko, and the footbridges and cycle bridges over the Tourujoki.
  • 15 km/h: Lutakonaukio (Lutakko Square), Kirkkopuisto (the church park) and by the Lutakko and Tuomiojärvi beaches.
  • No riding or parking at all: City land not meant for traffic, such as certain parks and sports grounds and school and nursery yards, which the companies must block in their apps. Since 1 May 2026 that includes Vehkalammenpuisto, whose paths and duckboards are for walkers only, Yle reported.

The apps must show these areas clearly, and the City’s map service (karttapalvelu) shows them all, with the parking bays.

Where to park an e-scooter in Jyväskylä

The licence tells the companies where their riders may park:

  • Best: a marked e-scooter bay or beside a bike rack. The City counts eight official bays in the centre (May 2026).
  • Otherwise: at the very edge of the pavement or cycle path, parallel to it, leaving at least 2.5 metres free for others.
  • Never: on a pedestrian street, a bridge, in an underpass or on an emergency access route, at a narrow or blind corner, where it blocks the way into a property, or in a bus stop’s waiting area. Parking on Vapaudenkatu at the Linkki centre has been banned since March 2026, Yle reported.
  • Lutakko harbour: park only in its marked spots.
  • The photo: every app must ask you for a photo of the parked scooter at the end of the ride.

Finland’s e-scooter rules in Jyväskylä

A rental e-scooter, built for at most 25 km/h, counts as a light electric vehicle (kevyt sähköajoneuvo) under the Road Traffic Act (Tieliikennelaki 729/2018), and its rider follows the rules for cyclists. Act 304/2025, in force since 17 June 2025, added a minimum age and a drink limit. In Finnish, search “sähköpotkulauta Jyväskylä”. The same national rules apply as in Helsinki and Tampere.

Linkki buses and VR trains

Linkki is the Jyväskylä region’s bus network. Its rules for your own scooter (29 October 2026):

  • Free: a folded scooter you carry under your arm.
  • €2, cash only: a scooter that doesn’t fold, if there is room in the middle section; you keep it upright.
  • Driver’s call: larger or special models.

On VR’s trains from Jyväskylä station, in the Matkakeskus (travel centre), small or foldable scooters travel free as hand luggage; a large one that won’t fold needs a paid, booked bike space, and you mustn’t attach it to the train or charge it on board. With a hire scooter, end the ride before you board.

The university, Harju ridge and the lakeside path

University of Jyväskylä. At the Ylistönrinne campus, scooters must stand in the bays painted with an e-scooter symbol on the outdoor grounds, the university said in September 2024. We found no scooter rule for its other campuses (29 October 2026).

Harju. We found no permanent scooter rule for the pine-forest ridge in the middle of the city (29 October 2026); the licence’s no-ride parks are on the City’s map service.

The lakeside path. The Rantaraitti round Lake Jyväsjärvi is the city’s most popular place to exercise outdoors, the City says. We found no scooter rule for the path itself; by Lutakko the 15 km/h zones and the harbour’s parking spots apply. To see what stands near you now, open the Jyväskylä map.

  • A century of steps. The Nero Stairs up Harju were built in 1925 as an unemployment relief project and are named after the municipal engineer of the day, Oskar Nero, Visit Jyväskylä says.
