E-scooters in Ramat Gan: Lime and Bird, the licence rule, parking, the Red Line and Shabbat

You can rent e-scooters in Ramat Gan with Lime or Bird, both on our map, and each app shows its price before you unlock. Israeli rules let you ride from 16, with a helmet and a driving licence or a passed test, and never on the sidewalk, the Israeli news site Ice reported in 2024. Dott was renting here too in late October 2026, but its scooters left our map on 28 October: check its app.

Which e-scooter apps work in Ramat Gan?

Two apps put stand-up e-scooters on our map of Ramat Gan: Lime and Bird.

At 10:56 Israel time on Thursday 29 October 2026 the Ramat Gan map showed 1,047 scooters inside the city’s boundary: 825 Lime and 222 Bird. That’s what stood there at that moment, not the size of the fleets. Each town next door has its own count: at the same moment the map showed 205 in Givatayim, 136 in Bnei Brak and about 3,000 in Tel Aviv-Yafo.

Dott rented here too: on 25 October 2026 the news site Kipa listed Ramat Gan among the seven towns where it runs shared scooters. Its scooters dropped off our map on 28 October 2026. We found no news of Dott leaving, so it may still rent here: check its app.

Lime also rents e-bikes in Ramat Gan, since August 2025, RGG News reported. ScootRadar shows e-scooters only, not e-bikes or bike share. New to shared e-scooters? See how to rent an e-scooter.

How much does an e-scooter cost in Ramat Gan?

We found no Ramat Gan price published by Lime, Bird or the city, so compare the two in their apps: each shows the unlock fee and the rate before you start.

Fines cost far more than rides. Since 1 August 2024 every e-scooter in Israel has had to be registered and carry an ID plate, a duty that falls on its owner, Ice reported, so on a shared scooter it’s the company’s. On a scooter of your own, riding without a plate has cost ₪750 since 1 September 2026, Maariv reported.

Do you need a licence for an e-scooter in Ramat Gan?

Yes. Israel’s rules ask every rider for a driving licence or, without one, a passed riding or theory test, Ice reported in 2024. Riding without either has carried a ₪750 fine since 2022, Srugim reported.

We found no news report on whether a visitor’s foreign licence counts, and no page from Lime, Bird or Dott on how they check one, so carry your licence and follow what your app asks for.

Carry your driving licence and wear a helmet. Since 2022 municipal inspectors, not only the police, can fine you for riding without either, Srugim reported.

The minimum age is 16; riding younger costs ₪1,000, Srugim reported in 2022.

E-scooter rules in Israel: what Ramat Gan riders must know

The rules are national: the Transport Ministry sets them and the Knesset’s Economy Committee approves the fines, Ice and Srugim reported. They apply the same in every town.

The ₪250 sidewalk and passenger fines are the ones Tel Aviv-Yafo reminded riders of in 2023, Ice reported.

Alcohol. E-scooters are “subject to the same traffic laws as any other vehicle”, a police spokesman told Calcalist in 2019, when Tel Aviv police began breath-testing riders. The paper said a conviction could cost you your driving licence for 24 months.

Where to ride and park an e-scooter in Ramat Gan

Ride on a bike path; where a street has none, ride on the road, never on the sidewalk, dpa reported in 2019, and Ice repeated in 2024 that riding on the sidewalk is banned.

Parking. In June 2021 Globes reported that in some areas of Ramat Gan, as in Tel Aviv, shared scooters could be left only in clearly defined spots under the city’s by-laws, and that Lime’s app would warn riders who parked elsewhere and fine them if the scooter stayed there. We found nothing newer from the city on which areas these are, so end your ride where the app accepts it.

Zones on the map. Turn on Ride and parking zones in the map’s settings and zoom in, and the map draws Bird’s zones: about 50 small spots across Ramat Gan where you can’t end a ride, and three where its scooters won’t run (the Safari and two small spots in the centre). Walk the scooter through those. Lime’s zones aren’t on the map, and for both companies the app has the final word.

Hours. We found no night or Shabbat ban on renting in Ramat Gan.

Ramat Gan National Park, the Safari, the Diamond Exchange and Bar-Ilan

Ramat Gan National Park (Park Leumi). The city’s park covers 1.9 km² around a lake. With zones turned on, the map shows a Bird no-parking zone over it: you can ride through on a Bird, but you can’t end your ride inside. We found no rule of the park’s own on scooters; check Lime’s app for its zones.

The Safari. The zoo next to the park, the Zoological Center Tel Aviv–Ramat Gan, bans riding e-bikes and e-scooters anywhere on its grounds, its visitor rules say, and the map shows a Bird no-ride zone over it. End your ride outside.

The Diamond Exchange District. The towers of the Israel Diamond Exchange stand in the north-west of the city, across the Ayalon Highway from Tel Aviv. Bridges from Savidor Center station lead east into the district, and the Red Line’s Abba Hillel station serves it. The map shows a Bird no-parking spot by the exchange; we found no rule of the exchange’s own on scooters.

Bar-Ilan University. We found no published university rule on e-scooters on its Ramat Gan campus, and the map shows no Bird zone inside it, so ask campus security at the gate before you ride or park inside.

The Red Line, trains and Shabbat

The Red Line. Tel Aviv’s light rail runs along Jabotinsky Road from Petah Tikva, in a tunnel under Ramat Gan, with stations at Bialik Street and at Abba Hillel by the Diamond Exchange, then on through Tel Aviv to Bat Yam. When it opened in August 2023, scooters and bikes could board only if they fold and are folded, Walla reported. A shared scooter doesn’t fold: end your ride near the station and walk in.

Trains. Tel Aviv Savidor Center stands in the middle of the Ayalon Highway by the Diamond Exchange District, and Bnei Brak–Ramat HaHayal station by the Ayalon Mall and Ramat Gan Stadium. We found no Israel Railways rule on e-scooters, so end your ride before you go in. Trains don’t run on Shabbat or Jewish holidays.

Shabbat. The Red Line’s last train on Friday leaves about three hours before Shabbat begins, and it doesn’t run on Saturday until sundown. Shared scooters have rented on Saturdays: in July 2024 Bird offered cheaper Saturday rides in Ramat Gan, Mekomon Ramat Gan reported. We found no rule that stops them, so check the app.

Riding into Tel Aviv, Givatayim and Bnei Brak

Ramat Gan runs into its neighbours without a break, and Lime and Bird ride on into them. The national rules stay the same, but parking and zones change at the city line.

Tel Aviv-Yafo began requiring marked bays for shared scooters in its centre in August 2019, between Ibn Gabirol Street and the sea, Maariv reported. See the Tel Aviv guide and the Tel Aviv map.

Givatayim, to the south-west, has about 40 small spots where Bird’s scooters won’t run (turn on the map’s zones to see them), so watch the app as you cross.

Bnei Brak lies to the east. When Ramat Gan’s council approved its Saturday buses in 2019, they were to keep to main roads such as Jabotinsky Road, which crosses Bnei Brak, and stay out of religious neighbourhoods, Globes reported: on Shabbat, it’s considerate to do the same on a scooter.

Did you know?

  • Lime started in Ramat Gan’s Diamond Exchange District: the mayor launched its scooters there on 12 February 2019 and rode one, helmet on, Mekomon Ramat Gan reported.
  • Ramat Gan once weighed a ban: in November 2019 its mayor said outlawing shared scooters in the city was one option on the table, after many accidents, Walla reported.
  • Shabbat is busy: the scooter companies reported more demand on Shabbat and holidays, and over Rosh Hashanah 2019, with no public transport running, Bird, then renting in Tel Aviv, Givatayim and Ramat Gan, charged 60 agorot a minute instead of 50, Hon reported.
  • Ramat Gan came second only to Tel Aviv-Yafo for police tickets to e-scooter riders in 2022, Ice reported.
  • Ramat Gan tested dockless bikes in 2018: Ofo’s 500 bikes made up to 1,300 rides a day there, Calcalist reported.
