E-scooters in Lahti: Dott and Ryde, the weekend night ban, where to park and when the season ends

E-scooters in Lahti are rented from Dott and Ryde, and every company needs the City’s micromobility permit; each app shows its price, and our map shows Dott, not Ryde. No one can rent a scooter from 00:00 to 05:00 on Friday and Saturday nights. From 15 you ride on the cycle path or the road at up to 20 km/h, in the centre you park in a marked bay, and the season runs, as a rule, to 15 November.

E-scooters in Lahti: Dott and Ryde under the City’s permit

Since 1 January 2026 renting out e-scooters in Lahti has needed the City’s micromobility permit (mikroliikennelupa), on terms adopted on 16 December 2025 and updated on 17 February 2026. The first permits run for one season. There is no cap on scooters “for the time being”, and the companies may run anywhere in the city.

The City publishes no list of permit holders. In December 2025 it counted two e-scooter companies in Lahti, and Dott and Ryde commented on its draft terms; both list Lahti on their own pages:

Ryde isn’t on our map, so look for its scooters in its own app, and don’t read the map’s total as every scooter in town. At 22:23 Lahti time on Thursday 29 October 2026 the Lahti map showed about 810 Dott scooters as they stood at that moment: a snapshot, not a fleet size. Scooters on a ride aren’t shown, nor prices, zones or parking. The total takes in all of Dott’s scooters in its Lahti area, which isn’t cut to the city limits and may take in parts of Hollola, to the west.

Electric scooter rental in Lahti: what it costs

The app shows the price before you unlock: we found no Lahti price on an open official or company page (29 October 2026).

Dott’s terms for Finland (last updated 23 September 2025) set its extra charges: up to €300 for recovering a scooter you parked or locked against its instructions, €50 for any breach of its terms, and a €50 admin fee if Dott pays a fine for you; fines and impounding costs are yours. Check Ryde’s fees and age limit in its app. New to hire scooters? See how to rent an e-scooter.

When can you ride? The night ban, speed limits and the season

The night ban. The permit bans renting e-scooters from 00:00 to 05:00 across the whole city on the nights from Friday to Saturday and from Saturday to Sunday, and on weekday holidays, “such as” the nights from Maundy Thursday to Good Friday, from Vappu Eve to May Day and from the day before Midsummer Eve to Midsummer Eve. The list is open: the City’s December 2025 decision bans weekend and weekday-holiday nights, so the nights into Easter Monday and Ascension Day may be banned too.

In February 2026, after points raised by an operator, City staff proposed swapping the ban for a 15 km/h limit every night; the urban environment committee voted unanimously to keep it, the City reported on 19 February. From midnight on the weekend nights and the three named holiday nights the map marks the ban and says when renting starts again; on other holiday nights, check the app.

The season. The City’s basic season runs from 1 April to 15 November, but the weather decides. The companies may open earlier once the streets are free of ice and snow and the 10-day forecast stays above freezing. In autumn they may run until at least 15 November; after that, once the forecast turns to frost and snow, they must clear their scooters within 48 hours of the City’s notice. On 29 October we found no City notice about the end of the 2026 season.

Where to park an e-scooter in Lahti

In the centre, only in a marked bay. The permit makes central Lahti a bay-only area: end your ride in a spot marked for scooters, mostly bays painted on the street. A scooter left more than 20 metres from one can count as outside it and be moved for a fee. In December 2025 the City planned about 100 new bays and said it would bring in the bay-only area step by step as they were finished.

No-parking areas. The City bars parking on bridges and in underpasses, on school and nursery grounds, in large parks and green areas and on steep hills. The apps must stop you ending a ride there.

Elsewhere, park at the edge of the pavement, cycle path or pedestrian street, parallel to it. Never at a bus stop, on a pedestrian crossing or at a junction, or in front of stairs, ramps, lifts or doors. The app asks for a photo of the parked scooter, and the companies must penalise clearly bad parking.

Removal. Since 1 March 2026 the City charges the company €50 to move a badly parked scooter nearby, or €130 to take it to storage plus €15 for every seven days started after the first week. Dott’s terms pass official charges on to you.

Central Lahti is bay-only: end your ride in a marked scooter bay. A scooter parked more than 20 metres from one can be moved for a fee, and Dott’s terms can pass that charge on to you.

Finland’s e-scooter rules in Lahti

A rental e-scooter, built for at most 25 km/h, counts as a light electric vehicle (kevyt sähköajoneuvo), and the Road Traffic Act (Tieliikennelaki 729/2018) sets its rules: you follow the rules for cyclists. Act 304/2025, in force since 17 June 2025, added a minimum age and a drink limit. In Finnish an e-scooter is a sähköpotkulauta; the same national rules apply as in Helsinki.

The market square, the harbour and the Sports Centre

The permit lets the City bar riding in forests, parks, sports fields, skate parks and on school grounds, and asks the companies to respect landowners’ own limits. The City adopted its zone maps on 16 December 2025; the apps show the zones in force.

LSL buses, VR trains and city bikes

LSL, the Lahti region’s public transport, runs the buses. Its rules for your own scooter (updated 31 August 2026):

  • Free: a folding scooter you can carry at your own seat like luggage.
  • With a ticket: an e-scooter travels on a second ticket at your own fare group’s price.
  • Not in the aisle: the driver can refuse a scooter when the bus is full or it would bother others.

On VR’s trains from Lahti station, at the Travel Centre, small or foldable scooters up to 80 × 60 × 40 cm and 20 kg travel free as hand luggage; a large one that won’t fold needs a paid, booked bike space, and you mustn’t attach it to the train or charge it on board. With a hire scooter, end the ride in a bay before you board.

Lahti also has city bikes, Mankeli. Our map shows standing e-scooters only, not bikes.

Did you know?

  • Ten hours a week. That is all the weekend night ban takes, the City reckons, and it points to Helsinki, where weekend limits alone halved serious accidents (December 2025).
  • Bikes ride on. The night ban and the speed limits apply to e-scooters only: shared bikes, with bigger wheels and a lower centre of gravity, are safer for their riders, the City says.
  • Bays from car spaces. About 20 of the roughly 100 new scooter bays in the centre were planned on car parking spaces, in the densest blocks; the centre’s bays would hold more than 1,500 scooters, the City said in December 2025.
