E-scooters in Ashdod: Lime and Bird, the licence rule, the marina, the beaches and the train
You can rent e-scooters in Ashdod with Lime or Bird, both on our map, and each app shows its price before you unlock. Israeli rules let you ride from 16, with a helmet and a driving licence or a passed test, and never on the sidewalk, the Israeli news site Ice reported in 2024. Both were picked in the City’s 2022 call for scooter companies, the local news site Kan Darom reported then; we found no later terms.
Which e-scooter apps work in Ashdod?
At 01:34 Israel time on Friday 30 October 2026 the Ashdod map showed about 630 scooters: some 265 Bird at that moment, and about 370 Lime as last counted. The total is what the two companies list for Ashdod, not the size of their fleets.
For Bird the map shows each scooter’s position, charge and range, and Bird’s no-parking zones; for Lime, position and charge. Scooters on a ride aren’t shown, nor are e-bikes. New to shared e-scooters? See how to rent an e-scooter.
Lime’s e-bikes aren’t on our map: Lime brought 120 to Ashdod in June 2025, alongside its scooters, the news site Walla reported. Wind, the third company the City picked in 2022, had left Ashdod by March 2023, the local news site Ashdodi reported. Dott, which rents in Tel Aviv and six other towns, didn’t list Ashdod among them on 25 October 2026, the news site Kipa reported, and we found no other company renting e-scooters in Ashdod.
| Company | On our map at 01:34 | Price | The City’s scheme |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bird | Yes: about 265, at that moment | In the app | Picked in 2022, Kan Darom reported |
| Lime | Yes: about 370, as last counted | In the app | Picked in 2022, Kan Darom reported |
| Lime e-bikes | No | In the app | Brought in June 2025, Walla reported |
| Wind | No | – | Picked in 2022; gone by March 2023, Ashdodi reported |
| Dott | No | – | Ashdod not in its list of towns, October 2026 |
Ashdod’s scooter tender: what we could find
In 2022 the City called for shared-scooter companies and, after a professional committee weighed the bids, picked three for a pilot: Bird, Wind and Lime, Kan Darom reported in August 2022. The call set how many scooters each company could keep and where in the city it should place them, and the official running the scheme said it let the City fix parking spots for them.
In November 2022 Ice reported, in a piece that reads as Bird’s own announcement, that Bird had scored highest in the tender. Wind had left by March 2023, Ashdodi reported. We found no later tender, no term and no news of a renewal, so we can’t say on what terms Lime and Bird rent now.
Lime added its e-bikes in June 2025 at the mayor’s push, Walla reported: Dr Yehiel Lasri said Ashdod’s infrastructure suited them and was still growing.
We found no published list of parking spots, and no caps, hours, or no-ride or slow zones. Each app shows where you may ride and end your ride, and the map shows Bird’s no-parking zones (see below).
Electric scooter rental in Ashdod: what does it cost?
We found no current Ashdod price published by Lime, Bird or the City, so compare them in their apps: each shows the unlock fee and the rate before you start.
Fines cost far more than rides. Since 1 August 2024 every e-scooter in Israel has had to be registered and carry an ID plate, a duty that falls on its owner, Ice reported, so on a shared scooter it’s the company’s. On a scooter of your own, riding without a plate has cost ₪750 since 1 September 2026, Maariv reported.
Do you need a licence for an e-scooter in Ashdod?
Yes. Israel’s rules ask every rider for a driving licence or, without one, a passed riding or theory test, Ice reported in 2024. Riding without either has carried a ₪750 fine since 2022, Srugim reported.
We found no news report on whether a visitor’s foreign licence counts, and no page from Lime or Bird on how they check one, so carry your licence and follow what your app asks for.
Carry your driving licence and wear a helmet. Since 2022 municipal inspectors, not only the police, can fine you for riding without either, Srugim reported.
The minimum age is 16; riding younger costs ₪1,000, Srugim reported in 2022.
E-scooter rules in Israel: what Ashdod riders must know
The rules are national: the Transport Ministry sets them and the Knesset’s Economy Committee approves the fines, Ice and Srugim reported. They apply the same in every town.
| Rule | What applies | Fine | Reported by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum age | 16 | ₪1,000 | Srugim 2022; Ice 2024 |
| Licence or test | A driving licence or, without one, a passed test | ₪750 | Srugim 2022; Ice 2024 |
| Helmet | Required | ₪1,000 | Srugim 2022; Ice 2024 |
| Speed | 25 km/h at most | – | Ice 2024 |
| Where to ride | Bike path, or the road where there is none; never the sidewalk | ₪250 on the sidewalk | dpa 2019; Ice 2023 and 2024 |
| Passengers | One rider only | ₪250 | Srugim 2022; Ice 2023 |
| Alcohol | No riding drunk, as for any vehicle | A court case; you can lose your driving licence | Calcalist 2019 |
| ID plate | Registered, with a plate, since 1 August 2024 | ₪750 since 1 September 2026 | Maariv 2026 |
The ₪250 sidewalk and passenger fines are the ones Tel Aviv-Yafo reminded riders of in 2023, Ice reported.
Alcohol. E-scooters are “subject to the same traffic laws as any other vehicle”, a police spokesman told Calcalist in 2019, when Tel Aviv police began breath-testing riders. The paper said a conviction could cost you your driving licence for 24 months.
Where to ride and park an e-scooter in Ashdod
Ride on a bike path; where a street has none, ride on the road, never on the sidewalk, dpa reported in 2019, and Ice repeated in 2024 that riding on the sidewalk is banned.
Ashdod has a good start: its bike paths ran to about 45 km in 2025, and in 2022 it ranked among Israel’s five best-networked cities, Walla reported. The City and the Transport Ministry plan to take the network to about 165 km, with two-way paths along the main roads, so expect new paths and roadworks.
Zones on the map. At street zoom the Ashdod map draws Bird’s no-parking zones: the marina and the beach around it, a stretch of shore south of it, a few small spots near the sea, and a large area in the east of the city, north of Ashdod Ad Halom station. Lime’s zones aren’t on the map, and for both companies the app has the final word.
Parking. We found no published City parking rules for shared scooters. End your ride where the app allows it, upright and out of the way: not across a doorway, a crossing or a bus stop.
The marina, the beaches, the port and Ashdod Ad Halom station
The marina. Ashdod Marina sits in the middle of the city’s beaches, close to the centre. Bird’s no-parking zone covers the marina and the beach around it, so end a Bird ride on the streets behind them and walk the last stretch.
The promenade and the beaches. We found no City rule on e-scooters on the beachfront promenade or the beaches, but municipal police check riders there. On 29 May 2026 they were stopping riders along the promenade, with fines of up to ₪1,000 and some e-bikes and scooters seized, and such checks run all week, the local news site Ashdod Online reported. Ride on a path or the road, as everywhere, and check your app before you end a ride by the sea.
The port. The Port of Ashdod, in the north of the city, is a working cargo port run by a government company, the Ashdod Port Company; we found no rule from it on e-scooters.
The train. Israel Railways has one station in the city, Ashdod Ad Halom, in the Ad Halom area near the city’s south-eastern entrance, next to the BIG Terminal bus station. Trains run north to Tel Aviv and south to Ashkelon and Beersheba. We found no Israel Railways rule on e-scooters, so end your ride before you go in.
Tel Aviv. For Tel Aviv, take the train and rent again there: see the Tel Aviv guide, where the centre has bays only.
Did you know?
- Ashdod’s station has a history: Ashdod Ad Halom opened in 1995, but between 1917 and 1947 a small station built by the British, on the line from Rafah to Lydda, served the town of Isdud on the same site.
- Ashdod has Israel’s largest port: it handles about 60% of the country’s port cargo. Building began in April 1961, and the first ship came in November 1965.
- Rides once cost ₪5: in November 2022, soon after the City’s tender, Bird offered rides of up to 20 minutes anywhere in Ashdod for ₪5, Ice reported.
- Ashdod had Lime’s e-bikes before Tel Aviv: they arrived in June 2025, pushed for by the mayor, while Tel Aviv’s city hall held back from adding e-bikes to the companies’ fleets, Walla reported.
