E-scooters in Aylesbury: Voi hire, Buckinghamshire’s trial, and where to park
E-scooters in Aylesbury come from one company, Voi, in Buckinghamshire Council’s rental trial, which the Department for Transport has extended until 31 May 2028. On 1 November 2026 the map showed them across the town, from the centre and the station to Stoke Mandeville Hospital. You must be 18 or over with at least a provisional driving licence; ride on roads and cycle lanes, never on pavements, start and end each ride at a parking place, and check the price in the Voi app before you unlock. A private e-scooter is illegal everywhere in public.
E-scooters in Aylesbury: Voi and Buckinghamshire Council’s trial
Voi hires out Aylesbury’s e-scooters. Buckinghamshire Council’s trial page says Voi operates the rental scheme, that the Department for Transport has extended the trial until 31 May 2028, and that it runs in Aylesbury and High Wycombe; in Buckinghamshire, it adds, only Voi e-scooters are legal. The government’s list of trial areas, updated on 7 July 2026, includes “Buckinghamshire (Aylesbury, High Wycombe)”, and its change log shows Buckinghamshire added on 21 October 2020. The government says the 21 live trials are due to end on 31 May 2028.
At 07:33 GMT on Sunday 1 November 2026 the map of Aylesbury showed 212 Voi e-scooters free to rent at that moment. The total is Aylesbury’s alone, as High Wycombe’s scooters have a map of their own; at 07:53 GMT that morning the scooters stood in the town centre and its suburbs, from Quarrendon and Elmhurst to Kingsbrook, Bedgrove, Southcourt and Stoke Mandeville Hospital. The map shows where each scooter stands and its battery, not prices, zones or parking places; you unlock and pay in the Voi app.
Where are the scooters in Aylesbury?
| Around | Scooters |
|---|---|
| The town centre, the station and the streets near them | 144 |
| Quarrendon and the north-west | 15 |
| Elmhurst and Watermead | 15 |
| Kingsbrook, in the north-east | 11 |
| Stoke Mandeville Hospital | 11 |

At 07:53 the map showed none at Aylesbury Vale Parkway station or in Berryfields beside it, and none in the villages of Stoke Mandeville, Aston Clinton, Waddesdon or Haddenham, or in Wendover. Don’t count on finding one outside Aylesbury itself.
The scooters were on the map late at night too: at 23:33 GMT on Saturday 31 October it showed 199 in and around the town. Hours can change, so check the app before a late ride.
How much does a Voi e-scooter cost in Aylesbury?
Buckinghamshire Council’s trial page lists three ways to pay: pay-as-you-go, a daily subscription and a monthly subscription, with discounts for riders who meet certain criteria. For up-to-date prices it sends you to the Voi app, which shows the price and any passes before you start; the map doesn’t show prices. Leave a scooter outside a parking place and you keep being charged, the council warns. New to hire scooters? Who can ride a Voi in Aylesbury, and what gets you fined
Buckinghamshire Council says anyone hiring an e-scooter must be 18 or over and hold at least a provisional driving licence. Before your first ride you photograph your licence and upload it to the Voi app, which verifies your identity, and you pass a safety quiz in the app, the council adds. A UK licence needs category Q, which comes with every car, moped and motorcycle licence; with a provisional one you don’t need L plates, the government says. Visitors can use a full EU or EEA licence, or another country’s full driving licence within 12 months of entering the UK, but never a foreign provisional licence or learner permit.
| Rule | What it means | Set by | If you break it |

| Parking | Start and finish every ride at a parking place | Buckinghamshire Council | You keep paying; repeat offenders are fined and can be blocked |

The operator provides third-party insurance for every ride. The national rules are in our guide to e-scooter law in the UK.
A private e-scooter is illegal on Aylesbury’s roads, pavements and cycle lanes and in its parks; you may ride one only on private land with the owner’s permission. Riding one counts as riding an uninsured motor vehicle: a £300 fixed penalty and 6 points, and the police can seize it, since 29 June 2026 without a warning first if it is ridden anti-socially. On 30 October 2026 there was no government bill to change this, and in September the Department for Transport said only that it would consult on e-scooter rules “over the next year”.
Where can you ride and park a Voi in Aylesbury?
You may ride a trial e-scooter on the road, except motorways, and in cycle lanes and on cycle paths, but never on the pavement, Buckinghamshire Council says. Every ride has to start and finish at one of the parking places the Voi app shows. The trial zone is geofenced: ride out of it and the scooter slows down and stops. The council also said it would bring in lower-speed zones in some places for safety. The map here doesn’t draw zones or parking places, so check the app before you set off.
The town centre. At 07:58 GMT on 1 November 2026 the map showed 103 scooters in and around the centre: 26 within 150 metres of the station entrance, 7 of them right beside it, then 10 near the High Street and 7 by Exchange Street.
The centre has been changing. The council’s news of 30 October 2025 listed a pedestrian zone in Cambridge Street, traffic restrictions in Kingsbury Square made permanent to improve pedestrian access, and a new walkway in the Pavilion Quarter linking the High Street with the Exchange. It doesn’t say how the e-scooter zones treat them: the app shows where you may ride and park.
Aylesbury station, Chiltern Railways and the buses
Chiltern Railways runs the mainline trains to and from Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust says. Check Chiltern’s own rules on e-scooters before you bring one to a station, and end your Voi ride at a parking place before you go in.
Aylesbury Vale Parkway station had no scooter near it at 07:53 GMT on 1 November 2026, and at 07:59 the nearest to Stoke Mandeville station, south of the town, stood nearly half a kilometre away.
The bus station is on Great Western Street, less than 200 metres from the train station; at 07:58 the map showed 11 scooters near it. Buckinghamshire Council’s bus page has the timetables and routes and sends you to Traveline for longer journeys. End your ride before you board a bus.
Stoke Mandeville Hospital
Stoke Mandeville Hospital, on Mandeville Road on the south side of the town, is the biggest hospital in Buckinghamshire, with its emergency department and the National Spinal Injuries Centre, one of the largest specialist spinal injuries units in the world, Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust says. The trust names Aylesbury station as the closest, 7 minutes by car or taxi or a 30-minute walk away.
A Voi can cover that walk. At 07:59 GMT on 1 November 2026 the map showed 7 scooters together by the Stadium Approach bus stop on Mandeville Road. End your ride at a parking place the app shows.
High Wycombe and the towns nearby
Voi runs the same trial in High Wycombe, about 21 km (13 miles) south of Aylesbury as the crow flies; at 07:33 GMT on 1 November 2026 the map of High Wycombe showed 172 e-scooters free to rent at that moment. The geofence stops a scooter that leaves its trial zone, so end your ride before you leave Aylesbury and hire again in High Wycombe.
Further afield, Voi also rents in Oxford, where the map showed 717 at the same moment (see e-scooters in Oxford), and Lime and Dott rent in Milton Keynes, with 1,113 (see e-scooters in Milton Keynes).
Did you know?
- Birthplace of the Paralympics. The Paralympic movement began at Stoke Mandeville hospital in 1948, when Dr Ludwig Guttmann organised the Stoke Mandeville Games: 16 injured servicemen and women took part in an archery competition on the same day as the opening ceremony of the London Olympics, Buckinghamshire Council says.
- A flame of its own. Stoke Mandeville has hosted the flame lighting ceremony for each Paralympic Games since 2014, the council’s heritage page adds.
- Coral for a reason. Buckinghamshire’s trial scooters are painted coral to make them easier to see for people with impaired vision, the council says, and each has a bell, a registration number and lights that come on whenever it is used.
- A pandemic idea. The council’s feedback form still says the trial was meant to ease reduced public transport capacity and allow for social distancing during the Covid-19 pandemic, and still offers Princes Risborough as a third town.
Questions
- Is Voi the only e-scooter hire in Aylesbury?
- Yes. Voi operates Buckinghamshire Council’s rental trial, and the council says only Voi e-scooters are legal in Buckinghamshire.
- Where can I find a Voi e-scooter in Aylesbury?
- Across the town: at 07:53 GMT on 1 November 2026 the map showed 144 in and around the centre and the rest in suburbs such as Quarrendon, Elmhurst, Kingsbrook, Bedgrove and Southcourt and at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. It showed none in the villages of Stoke Mandeville, Aston Clinton, Waddesdon or Haddenham, or in Wendover.
- How much does a Voi e-scooter cost in Aylesbury?

- Where can I leave a Voi in Aylesbury?
- Only at a parking place the Voi app shows: every ride has to start and finish at one. If you leave the scooter elsewhere you keep being charged, and repeat offenders are fined and can be blocked, Buckinghamshire Council says.
