E-scooters in Bydgoszcz: Bolt, the centre’s P spots, Poland’s rules, towing, and scooters on trams and buses
You can rent an e-scooter (hulajnoga elektryczna) in Bydgoszcz with Bolt; check the fare and the minimum age in the app. In the very centre you must leave the scooter at one of 26 spots marked “P” in the app, says ZDMiKP, the city’s roads and public transport authority. Polish law limits you to 20 km/h and sends you to the cycle path first, then to a road limited to 30 km/h, and the pavement only as an exception.
Which e-scooter apps work in Bydgoszcz?
Bolt’s scooters are on ScootRadar’s map of Bydgoszcz.
At 15:57 on Monday 2 November 2026, Polish time, the Bydgoszcz map showed about 800 Bolt scooters free to rent at that moment.
Check the fare, and the company’s minimum age for renting, in the app before you unlock. New to shared scooters? See how to rent an e-scooter.
Our guides to Toruń, Poznań, Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot, Szczecin, Łódź and Katowice and Chorzów cover the same national rules.
Where can you ride? Poland’s e-scooter rules
Poland’s Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym) sets the riding rules in Bydgoszcz, as everywhere in the country. An electric scooter (hulajnoga elektryczna) may go no faster than 20 km/h.
- Cycle path or cycle lane first, where there is one for your direction.
- Otherwise the road, but only where its speed limit is 30 km/h or less.
- The pavement only as an exception: beside a road with a limit above 30 km/h and no cycle path or lane. Ride at walking pace there, give way to pedestrians and don’t get in their way.
| Rule | What applies | Fine |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum age | 13 since 3 March 2026 (10 before); under 13 only in a home zone, with an adult | – |
| Aged 13 to 17 | A bicycle card (karta rowerowa) or an AM, A1, B1, B or T licence | – |
| Helmet | Required under 16 since 3 June 2026 | Up to PLN 100, for the parent or carer |
| Cycle path | Use it where there is one | PLN 100 |
| Pavement | Only beside a road over 30 km/h with no cycle path or lane | PLN 200 |
| On the pavement | Walking pace, give way, don’t obstruct | PLN 300 each |
| Riding | One rider; no passenger, animal, load or towing; not side by side on the road; a hand on the handlebar | PLN 50 for side by side or no hands |
| Phone | Don’t hold it while riding | PLN 500 |
| Alcohol, 0.2‰ to 0.5‰ | “After drinking” (stan po użyciu alkoholu) | PLN 1,000 ticket; in court up to PLN 5,000 or arrest, and possibly a riding ban |
| Alcohol, over 0.5‰ | “Drunk” (stan nietrzeźwości) | PLN 2,500 ticket; in court up to PLN 5,000 or arrest, and possibly a riding ban |
| Parking on the pavement | In a marked place, else at the outer edge, parallel to it, leaving 1.5 m for pedestrians | Removal at the owner’s cost if it blocks the way |
All are national rules, the same in Bydgoszcz and every other Polish town. The tickets come from the government’s fines tariff in force since 1 January 2022, and the helmet fine from the Code of Petty Offences.
The helmet rule covers rented scooters too. The National Road Safety Council (KRBRD) said on 3 June 2026 that it applies whether a rider under 16 uses their own scooter or a rented one, and that a helmet, though not compulsory from 16, is advised. ZDMiKP, too, urges every scooter rider in Bydgoszcz to wear one.
ZDMiKP (Zarząd Dróg Miejskich i Komunikacji Publicznej), which runs Bydgoszcz’s roads and organises its trams and buses, spells out a few more points of the law on its scooter page, published in December 2024, before the minimum age rose to 13:
- Signal before you turn. A scooter without indicators needs a hand signal, given early and clearly, before you change direction or lane.
- Shared paths for walking and cycling (droga dla pieszych i rowerów) count like cycle paths: use them where they run your way, but take special care there and give way to people on foot.
- Keep at least one hand on the handlebar and your feet on the scooter, and don’t hang on to other vehicles.
Bydgoszcz’s cycle paths
Bydgoszcz had about 141 km of cycle infrastructure, ZDMiKP said on 29 April 2026: cycle paths, shared paths for walking and cycling, cycle lanes and contraflow lanes.
The city is long and narrow, about 20 km from Osowa Góra in the west to Fordon in the east and about 9 km from north to south, so most of the network runs east to west:
- East to west, a route runs from the junction of Grunwaldzka and Czapla to the Węzeł Wschodni, where Fordońska, Kamienna and Sporna meet.
- A parallel route along the Bydgoszcz Canal (Kanał Bydgoski) links the Miedzyń district with rondo Grunwaldzkie.
- In the north, a cycle path runs from Myślęcinek to Fordon through the Las Gdański forest; in the south, others run along Wojska Polskiego and Solskiego.
Only 0.6 km was built or marked in 2025, including the link from Plac Teatralny across Focha to Gdańska, as the work went into design and into starting larger projects due to be finished in the second half of 2026 or early in 2027. Under way in April 2026 were, among others, about 2.5 km along the Brda’s banks, from Krakowska past the Most Pomorski bridge to Kazimierza Wielkiego, 3.1 km on Toruńska and 2.5 km on Sułkowskiego.
Parking in the centre: the “P” spots
In the very centre of Bydgoszcz you must leave an e-scooter at a spot set aside for it, where you can also end and pay for the ride. The operators’ apps mark the spots with a letter “P”, and ZDMiKP’s scooter page counts 26 of them in the centre. It lists them and attaches a map: among them are spots on Plac Wolności, at rondo Jagiellonów, on Gdańska and Długa, and at Plac Teatralny, Stary Port, Stary Rynek, Zbożowy Rynek, Nowy Rynek, Plac Poznański and Garbary.
Outside the very centre you can still leave a scooter as the law allows: in a place marked for it or, failing that, at the pavement’s outer edge, the one farthest from the road, parallel to it, leaving at least 1.5 m for people on foot. Before you end a ride, check where the app lets you finish it.
Towing and its fees
An e-scooter left where parking is banned, if it blocks traffic or otherwise puts anyone at risk, can be removed at its owner’s cost under article 130a of the Road Traffic Act. ZDMiKP’s scooter page gives the fees Bydgoszcz’s city council set for 2025:
| What | Fee |
|---|---|
| Removal | PLN 171 |
| Each day in storage | PLN 33 |
| Removal ordered, then called off | PLN 50 |
For a rental, the owner is the scooter company: check its terms in the app to see what it may charge you.
Trams and buses
ZDMiKP organises Bydgoszcz’s trams and buses. Their carriage rules (Regulamin przewozu osób i bagażu), in force since 19 August 2020 under the mayor’s order 473/2020 of that day, say this about luggage:
- Free, if it doesn’t get in the way. You may carry things free of charge as long as they don’t block the aisle, dirty other passengers’ clothes or cause them other trouble, hide the driver’s view or create any other hazard.
- Size limits. One item up to 90 × 75 × 40 cm, or 10 × 10 × 220 cm, or one flat item up to 100 × 90 cm. Prams, wheelchairs, bicycles, skis, sledges, snowboards, musical instruments and easels are allowed as well.
- Not on the seats. Luggage may not go on the seats, and ZDMiKP’s luggage page adds that it should be secured against shifting.
Neither the rules nor the luggage page names e-scooters. Free carriage covers one item within those sizes and the things listed; the luggage page bars anything larger. A ticket inspector can charge a surcharge for luggage excluded from carriage: PLN 114, or PLN 79.80 if paid within 7 working days, ZDMiKP’s surcharges page says. With a rental, end your ride and park before you board.
Did you know?
- The P spots are virtual. When ZDMiKP and the operators set them up in the apps for the 2024 season, there were 27, around Stary Rynek, along Gdańska and by rondo Jagiellonów. Putting them in the apps meant no extra markings had to be painted on the centre’s granite slabs and stone paving, the authority said in March 2024.
- Removal got dearer. When Poland’s scooter rules came in on 20 May 2021, the act set removal at PLN 123 and PLN 23 for each day of storage, ZDMiKP noted then; for 2025 Bydgoszcz’s council set PLN 171 and PLN 33.
- The hand signal worried riders most. In May 2021 ZDMiKP wrote that most scooters had no indicators, so stretching out an arm while riding could upset the scooter’s balance; even experienced riders found it risky.
- Poland modelled its under-16 helmet rule on the one for ski slopes, KRBRD said on 3 June 2026.
